Entry level and teaching arrangements

Entry level: Complete beginners. No knowledge of Hangul required.
Course materials: Korean for Absolute Beginners, a letter-writing workbook, pronunciation audio and everyday situation cards.

Course outline

Four connected learning modules

The outline is organized by progression of ability. Teachers adjust the density of practice to how a class is doing, while stage goals and core content stay the same.

MODULE 01 · Understanding Hangul

Weeks 1–3

Teaching content: Basic vowels and consonants, syllable blocks, final consonants and writing.
Classroom tasks: Spell out names; build syllables from what you hear; recognise common words
Homework and unit checks: Letter handwriting; shadowing; spelling, dictation and pronunciation check in week 3

MODULE 02 · Meeting for the first time

Weeks 4–5

Teaching content: Greetings, introductions, countries, jobs and 이에요/예요.
Classroom tasks: Exchange personal details; introduce a classmate; read a name card
Homework and unit checks: Record a self-introduction; basic speaking test in week 5

MODULE 03 · Time and place

Weeks 6–8

Teaching content: Numbers, dates, time, existence expressions and core particles.
Classroom tasks: Ask the time; describe the classroom; make a personal schedule
Homework and unit checks: Number discrimination; write up your schedule; listening and reading check in week 8

MODULE 04 · Campus-life task

Weeks 9–10

Teaching content: Asking about places, routines, ordering and a situational showcase.
Classroom tasks: Ask directions on campus; order at a café; rotate through everyday dialogues
Homework and unit checks: Consolidation review; prepare the closing presentation

Assessment schedule

Assessment is spread across the term rather than saved for the end, so both teacher and learner can see progress while there is still time to act on it.

Week 3: letter reading and dictation.
Week 5: self-introduction.
Week 8: listening and reading on numbers, time and place.
Week 10: a directions or ordering scenario, basic reading and short writing.
