Course outline

Four connected learning modules

The outline is organized by progression of ability. Teachers adjust the density of practice to how a class is doing, while stage goals and core content stay the same.

MODULE 01 · Experiences and stories

Weeks 1–3

Teaching content: The past simple, sequencing, describing people and events, and retelling.
Classroom tasks: Retell a weekend experience; tell a story from picture prompts; interview a partner about a memorable event
Homework and unit checks: Past-tense practice; a 90-second story recording; narrative speaking quiz in week 3

MODULE 02 · Plans and choices

Weeks 4–6

Teaching content: Future forms, comparisons, advice, travel and study plans.
Classroom tasks: Compare two travel options; agree a group weekend plan; explain the reasons behind a choice
Homework and unit checks: Write a planning email; practise comparison language; reading and planning-writing test in week 6

MODULE 03 · Health and lifestyle

Weeks 7–9

Teaching content: The body, habits, modal verbs, appointments and asking for help.
Classroom tasks: Doctor and patient role-play; survey daily habits; give advice on improvements
Homework and unit checks: Keep a health log; record a piece of advice; service-scene listening and speaking check in week 9

MODULE 04 · Expressing a complete idea

Weeks 10–12

Teaching content: Linking words, short emails, a two-minute talk and an integrated task.
Classroom tasks: State a view on study habits; take questions from peers; rewrite a badly structured email
Homework and unit checks: Write a topic paragraph; prepare a two-minute talk; final consolidation

Assessment schedule

Assessment is spread across the term rather than saved for the end, so both teacher and learner can see progress while there is still time to act on it.

Week 3: spoken account of a past experience.
Week 6: reading on travel plans and an email-writing task.
Week 9: listening and speaking task in a health-service scenario.
Week 12, final: integrated listening and reading, a two-minute topic talk and a short email.

What you finish with
A personal story, a travel plan and a well-structured everyday email.
