Entry level and teaching arrangements

Entry level: CEFR A2 or above recommended; a short speaking diagnostic is completed before the course starts.
Course materials: Spoken English intensive task pack, pronunciation audio, recording review sheets and situation cards.

Course outline

Four connected learning modules

The outline is organized by progression of ability. Teachers adjust the density of practice to how a class is doing, while stage goals and core content stay the same.

MODULE 01 · Speaking clearly

Weeks 1–2

Teaching content: Pronunciation diagnosis, stress, rhythm, thought groups and shadowing.
Classroom tasks: Baseline recording; shadowing; peer feedback on how easy you are to follow
Homework and unit checks: Short daily shadowing; record your corrected sounds; pronunciation retest in week 2

MODULE 02 · Keeping a conversation going

Weeks 3–4

Teaching content: Questions, follow-ups, responses, topic changes and repair strategies.
Classroom tasks: Rotating conversations; information gaps; handling the unexpected
Homework and unit checks: Log two real conversations; paired interaction test in week 4

MODULE 03 · Building a complete message

Weeks 5–6

Teaching content: Narratives, image description, developing views and impromptu frameworks.
Classroom tasks: Graded talks of one, two and three minutes
Homework and unit checks: Record a topic talk and assess it yourself; impromptu speaking check in week 6

MODULE 04 · Real-task week

Weeks 7–8

Teaching content: Social interaction, problem-solving, discussion and recorded performance review.
Classroom tasks: Group discussion; task negotiation; recording the final piece
Homework and unit checks: Prepare the closing recording; analyse your own progress

Course outline

Assessment schedule

Assessment is spread across the term rather than saved for the end, so both teacher and learner can see progress while there is still time to act on it.

Week 1: establish a baseline speaking recording.
Week 2: pronunciation and intelligibility retest.
Week 4: paired interaction test.
Week 6: impromptu topic talk.
Week 8, final: situational interaction, group discussion and an individual topic talk, compared against the entry recording.
